This is the first time that Punjab University has set up a teaching campus outside Lahore in 123 years. The Gujranwala Campus of the Punjab University was established with the help of the distinguished Principal, General Officer Khalid Maqbool, and therefore the Vice President. The inauguration of the sub-campus is in line with the education policy of the current government of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf. He is deeply interested in education in the country, especially in the promotion of education.

This is the first time in the 124-year history of Punjab University that it has set up a teaching campus outside Lahore. The Gujranwala Campus has been established with the keen interest and cooperation of the Honorable Chancellor Lt. Gen. Khalid Maqbool and the able Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (retd) Arshad Mahmood.
Gujranwala Campus is found in Gujranwala near Alipur Chowk near Rawalpindi Bypass. The building is almost like the old campus building of the Punjab University in Lahore. It is away from the city, with easy transportation, and at the same time away from busy city streets. It is a neighborhood of 22 canals. It has 37 classrooms, an administrative building, a large multi-functional hall, and ancillary facilities (such as a parking zone, canteen, bookstore, two large lawns, etc.).
The inauguration of the sub-campus is in line with the education policy of the current government of General Pervez Musharraf (President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan), who is taking a keen interest in promoting education. Gujranwala Campus (see location map) is located near Alipur Chowk, Rawalpindi Bypass. It covers an area of 81 kanals. It has 37 classrooms, 1 administration block, a fully air-conditioned and open shelf library, 1 large multi-purpose hall, and associated facilities such as car parking, canteen, bookshop, and grass lawn.
